Fishing at Edgelaw Reservoir

Located in the rolling countryside of Midlothian, around four miles west of Temple, Edgelaw Reservoir is a secluded freshwater reservoir offering peaceful and rewarding coarse fishing within easy reach of Edinburgh. The reservoir was originally constructed in 1880 as an artificial water supply reservoir and today provides a scenic setting surrounded by woodland, farmland, and wildlife.

With its quiet rural location and natural beauty, Edgelaw has become a popular venue for anglers seeking a relaxed day’s fishing away from busy commercial fisheries.

The reservoir supports a healthy population of coarse fish and predators, offering varied sport throughout the year.

Common species found in the reservoir include:

  • Pike

  • Perch

  • Roach

  • Tench

Pike and perch are among the most frequently caught species, with pike providing exciting sport for lure and deadbait anglers.

The water suits a variety of angling styles including lure fishing, deadbaiting, and traditional coarse fishing methods.

Day Ticket Prices

Fishing at Edgelaw Reservoir is available through daily permits as well as club membership.

Prices:

  • Visitors:‍ ‍£5 per day

  • Junior visitors:£2.50 per day

  • Senior citizen: £2.50 per day

Permits can be purchased from the following outlets:

  • Dalkeith Pet Store, Dalkeith

  • Edinburgh Angling Centre, Granton

  • Day tickets can be bought on the banks but we’d suggest getting a ticket before your visit

Membership

Regular anglers may benefit from joining the club. Membership offers:

Members are still required to hold a valid permit when fishing the reservoir.
